for Oracle
Wind for Clipper's sail
Mediator for Oracle
enables any CA-Clipper application to work in Oracle database environment. The Mediator
allows to save the most valuable thing - thousands of tried-and-true lines of code while
replacing the data storing methods, which are the weakest elements of CA-Clipper. Porting
data to Oracle database means the end of problems with damaged indexes, tables that are
too big or insufficient protection. Additionally using Mediator enables
CA-Clipper programmers to use full capabilities of ORACLE server.
Mediator enables a quick and easy
achievement of technological breakthrough in the software, requiring incomparably lower
expenses than are traditionally associated with upgrading the software.
How does
CA-Clipper/MEDIATOR application work?
Mediator is RDD driver.
RDD standard (Replaceable Data Driver) is used with CA-Clipper tools beginning
from version 5. After linking Mediator libraries, CA-Clipper application connects
with MEDIATOR server communicating with Oracle database server, instead of the traditional
reading of *.dbf files. CA-Clipper/Mediator application follows a client-server model:
data processing (selection, index modification, sorting) is located on the server, while
data presentation is located on workstations.

Mediator
server can run on the computer with Oracle database installed, or it can communicate with
a database located on another computer via SQL*Net software.
